Housing Starts Surge to Highest Point Since 2008

WASHINGTON-Construction of new homes leapt last month to the highest level since before the financial crisis, a sign the U.S. housing market's recovery will continue to lift the economy. Overall housing starts rose 7% in March to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.04 million, the Commerce Department said Tuesday.

Home Builders' Confidence Falls Again

WASHINGTON-U.S. home builders' confidence fell for the third-straight month in April, as builders cited concerns about their ability to get construction loans and higher costs for building materials. The National Association of Home Builders said Monday that its housing-market index was 42 in April, down two points from the previous month and the lowest level since October, when the index was at 41.
